Bio:

Thollder is a dwarven wizard in the tradition of the khun thu’dek, the armormages, warrior-arcanists who focus on protective and power-enhancing magics. Choosing that path is something of an old family tradition. His father, Godther Steelheart, is an armormage and a high-level advisor to King Dankar of Andus Drathtak (roughly translated into Common: The Red Stone Fortress), the mountain fortress the Steelheart clan has served for many generations. Thollder’s life goal is to unlock the deep secrets of thrak’un uth’kir, runesmithing, and become a thrak’un uth’an, as his father’s father’s father was – to that end, he spends a great deal of time studying his great grandfather’s writings (but not his spellbook, which was buried with him).

Thollder’s parents are both alive. His mother, Hrome Steelheart, is a priestess of Moradin, and his father Godther is (as previously discussed) an armormage and advisor to the king of his home fortress. Hrome came from a fortress farther in the south and Thollder doesn’t know anyone from her side of the family (though he hopes to meet them some day). Thollder has one brother, a carpenter named Kentas, and one female cousin with whom he is close, a fellow armormage named Tonlin. His father’s father Uthen fell in a battle about a decade ago against a small force of duergar raiders. Ankros, his father’s father’s father, was killed defending his king from a drow assassin.

Thollder spent his early life in Andus Drathtak, learning stonemasonry from the master stonecrafters of the fortress and arcane magic from his father. He recently received an invitation from the human mage Markein Redtower, whose grandfather had been apprenticed to Thollder’s father for a brief time, to undertake an intensive five-year apprenticeship, and so has decided to leave his people for a brief time to do this.

Thollder stands only four feet, two inches, but due to his dwarven solidity weighs one hundred and seventy pounds. His hair is red; at the crown of his head there is noticeable thinning (a sign of wisdom among the dwarves), but his beard is full and long, kept manageable by ornamental rings. His eyes are dark brown but large and expressive, set under eyebrows that would be large on a human but are actually rather thin for a dwarf’s. On his head he wears a thin steel band with the mountain-and-core symbol of his clan. He normally wears a belted khaki-colored cloth-and-leather traveling robe over a set of midnight blue tunic and trousers, with thick-soled leather boots, but also has a suit of brown leather armor that he sometimes wears to fight. His voice is gruff, as can be expected, but he speaks Common with almost no accent. Thollder is personable for a dwarf, and much more flexible than many of his kin. He does have a strong sense of where he comes from – he’s filled with the ancient wisdom for which dwarves are known, in the form of maxims, proverbs, and quotations from old dwarven sources, including a few picked up from his father and the writings of his great grandfather.
